November 2014 Smudged & Smeared Blog Hop

After suffering a bone-crushing low from finishing the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween - I jumped at the chance to join the November bloghop!  Yay for more creepies, crawlies and bones!!! 31DOH was absolutely awesome, and I'm absolutely doing it again next year, but in the meantime, you can hop along with all the other blogs and enjoy some amazing creations with the theme "Transparency".

I have several transparent items in my project - first is the jar full of bones.  They are real bones too!  I saved some chicken bones and cleaned them, then laid them on a tray and popped them in the oven to speed up the drying process.  Well I promptly forgot about them and went and did some crafting.  By now the smell was horrific!  The whole house smelled of cremated chicken.  I whipped them out and jammed them in this jar to contain the smell. Then I did a bit of "fake 'n' bake" to get rid of the smell in the oven and house.  I lit all my scentsy warmers and opened up the house.  I might add all this was going on at about 11pm at night!

Fast forward to today and the ghost of chickens past have finally moved on.  My bones are charred and spooky looking in my jar so I can now decorate it.

I added a label that I printed from Ten Two Studios, then wrapped a sheer lacy wrap around the jar. Then I added a spider to the label - it's a little sparkly!

On top of the jar I added a skeleton.  I had to heat up it's joints so they bent the way I wanted.  I also added a couple of extra heads.
I experimented with some patterned acetate that I had.  Using my heat gun I gently warmed it and watched it warp and bend. I was most excited to see that the shiny pattern became embossed and a sparkly matt black!!  It looked awesome!  I cut the plastic into two tags and added a printed skeleton tag as well.  I got this digi image from Pinkflamingo06 on Artfire.  It's a rubber stamp, that I stamped, scanned and then printed in the size I needed.  I printed it on some aged paper and inked the edges.

The things we do for our art!! Cremated chicken....yuck! But turned out truly awesome! Love the technique with the transparency and adore that stamped skelly. The top skelly is sitting amazingly and love the extra heads/skulls! Makes me want 31 days again...sorta...a whole lot..Great jar of lovely bones!

Ooh...the lovely bones! (But maybe not so lovely a smell, huh? LOL) Love your project and the way you've incorporated several different transparent elements.

I don't know about the cremated chicken smell - our house is currently permeated with lavender. I have been filling lavender bags and that fragrance can be pretty overpowering!! Lovely to see another of your spooky offerings!!

I enjoyed your story very much! Thanks for the giggle. I like the tip of heating up the skeleton to make him bendy...perfect! I love your jar of bones! Great job!

Awesome creation and happy you got to use the bones. Clever idea to warm up the legs to make them bend!
