I was invited to a birthday party and had to whip up a quick present. As usual I like to create something hand made, but I also added a gift card. Gift cards on their own are typically pretty boring, and they don't really scream "party" in an envelope, so I thought back to a wonderful craftying craze a while ago where you make a cupcake and have the gift card stored inside.
This is what I made. The cupcake base is simply crimped cardstock. I made it the same way I do my rosettes. Then I added a foam ball that I had cut in half and then glued together with a small gap for the card to move in and out of.
To decorate the cupcake I "iced" the cake with purple pleated ribbon sprinkled with tiny star buttons. On the top of the gift card I've attached a tiny bulldog clip with a small foam ball that I coloured in with my red Copic marker. I used some brown crimped card for the cherry stalk and then tied on lots of sheer purple organza ribbon. I'm really happy with how it turned out and the birthday girl loved it also! I wrote a birthday greeting on the bottom of the cupcake.
Here is what the card looks like when removed from the cupcake.
