Paper Succulents

I LOVE succulents, I have started a collection of my own.  I even found one in a bouquet of flowers I was given for my birthday and it's now happily growing in a pot of its own.

When I saw the flower templates at My Scrap Chick I just knew I could turn them into Succulents with a bit of coloured cardstock and paper curling.

I used Flower Pretties, Nesting Flower and Flower of Hope for my Succulents.  I printed the templates out and then traced them onto my chosen cardstock.  For the Flower Pretties template, I used very light green cardstock and coloured the tips of the petals with Copics.

I rounded the shapes of the succulents with a foam mat and wooden stylus/embossing tool.

I am so happy with how it turned out! It's so nice when an idea in your head comes together and works.  I had the little board from a Better Homes & Gardens magazine.  I then added a strip of artificial greenery that I bought at Spotlight a while back.  I added the paper succulents, leaves and berries until I was happy with the design.  I also tucked in a couple of plastic flowers from Queen & Co - I've had them for years, so the clear one had aged and yellowed nicely, the other was a deep purple.  I heated and curled them before adding them to the board.  Lastly, I wrapped some string around the board - right along the line created by the existing blackboard paint.  I tucked an ampersand among the knots and then added the word "Breathe".

As a finishing touch, I added some little gems to the centre of the succulents.  They reflect the light nicely and catch your eye.  There's also a couple of tiny black gems sprinkled around too.
