Remembrance Day 2016

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender.

Today is a day of Remembrance for those that died in the war.

This is one of my favourite images from Mo's Digital Pencil as it depicts a young person remembering an older generation.  I used textured black Bazzill, black brick patterned paper and red with white spots paper.  I curled the edges of the red paper to give a ribbon look.  I also used a small acetate negative strip and a kraft coloured clock from Tanya Leigh Designz. They symbolise time and memories.  I added a poppy which you could buy for $2 from various vendors around town.  It's actually a pin you can add to your shirt.

The clock becomes a place marker for the poppy when it's removed to be worn.

I used my Copics to colour the image, lots of dotting to create the camouflage pattern.  I distressed the edges of all the papers.  Lastly I added the sentiment.
