A Pop-Up Hexagon Ball

I stumbled across this wonderful little project while looking at the Sizzix website - the actual video can be found {here}. Any way I absolutely loved the idea and of course wanted to make one straight away! Problem is I don't own a Sizzix Big Shot, so I didn't have a template - so I did some research and thanks to Google found a template I could use. You can find it at Linda Lucine's Blog. So how did mine turn out? It was so easy and fun to create, even Amber has had fun popping it up and down.
(Note: the only thing I changed about the template was the size - I made mine larger. I also thought I would need more tabs to hold more rubber bands - you will see them in the tutorial - but I didn't need them, all I needed was one rubber band)
And here are pictures of all the sides
Want to see how it's made? I've even got a tutorial!

And just in case that's not enough - I have a video so you can see the Pop-Up Hexagon Ball in action!!

If you make one of these - I would LOVE to see it!!

UPDATE: As at the 5th of October 2010 it was bought to my attention that Linda Lucine's blog is no longer active.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! So jealous that you are going into spring. We are hitting fall and soon it will be winter. Living in the upper midwest of the States that means nasty cold weather. Love your site and the projects.

Love your hexagon ball. I just tried to leave a comment and i don't know if it went through or not. Anyway, I would love a copy of the template if you could email it to tmweik@mchsi.com I would appreciate it. I love the way you decorated your ball. I was going to just make it for fun for my son who saw one at the doctor's office and fell in love with it. Thanks for sharing. Vicki

Hi Janet, I couldn't find an email to message you direct, so hopefully you will see this. There is a photo above in my "slide" that shows where the rubber band goes. There will be tabs with a hole in each. Make sure you have created a slit running from the edge of the tab to the hole. Then slide your rubber band on one tab, and stretch over to the other tab and do the same thing. It can be a little tricky, you could use some elastic and thread it through the holes - this ensures you have the right elasticity for the ball to pop up if you don't have the right size rubber band. Hope this helps :)
