Happy Mother's Day!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all those mums out there! Hope you all had a great day. It was pretty quiet around my house - Sophia had me up at 5.45am, Jas ended up being home cause he's pretty sick, so he slept for most of the day. Amber and I did crafty things - she's been making me gifts for the past few days out of odds and ends, they are so cute! I now have several mini albums - complete with drawings from Sophia. Amber also made a cute little note holder at school and she bought me some wonderful body products from the Mother's Day stall that the Grade 3's held. I spent the day playing with the girls, travelling over to a (now non-existent) Chinese Grocery Store. Amber loves it over there, so I thought we would go, but do you think we could find it?! Nope. So we headed into a nearby shopping centre and enjoyed muffins for morning tea - Sophia chewed on a spoon and kept the other patrons amused. We then returned home and I thought I would do some scrapping - normally I do this late at night, when everyone is in bed and I have no interruptions, but I figured since it's supposed to be my day, why not. Well I also managed to fit in some cooking, cleaning, washing, shopping and more playing, in between cutting, stitching, doodling and cropping - yep I multitask, and if I don't, I feel like I'm being lazy and not getting enough done. Here is the end result. I'm so happy with it!The giraffe is based on Sophia's Rainforest Gym - yes it has a rainbow coming out of it's head. I drew and cut the whole thing from Bazzill, the circles were created with my CM circle cutter. The little mane was created with my scalloped scissors. There is a little tail at the bottom, and it also has a little ear. I put the photo of Sophia under it so that it looks like the leaves are coming out of the giraffe's mouth (as they do IRL). The photos have been altered in PSP to look so bright - it's a photo effect called "Time Machine" and is circa 1960. It's how photos tended to look after cross processing. Note: as with all my white layouts, the black outline is for display purposes only. Okay now for some closeups:

You can see this is where I hid my journalling - behind one of the giraffe's spots! All you do is pull out the card to read about Sophia's fascination with her Rainforest Gym. You can also see my doodling a little better.I used individual strips of colour for the rainbow, and added ribbon which mimics the sun on the playmat. The strips of blue you see actually sparkle.

I created the leaves out of Bazzill and then sewed down the middle. They are raised on 3D foam tape to give dimension. They mimic the leaves on the mat. I added buttons to the giraffe, but they aren't on the original - I just wanted different sized spots and the buttons worked well. If you like Sophia's gym, it's called the Fisher Price Rainforest Gym, it has lights and music as well as rainforest sounds. It is so worth the money - she plays for ages in it, and now she's discovered the sensory mat cause she can roll over and see it! Woohoo, the play continues.....

Gorgeous! It sounds like you had a great mother's day! I love that you did a page basing the design on Fisher Price's Rainforest set. My son had that set as well. Definitely gonna have to copy you, although I will never be able to handle that cool giraffe!
