What does quiet mean to me?

Firstly I don't like the quiet - on a personal level I've never heard quiet - I have Tinnitus. I have a constant noise in my ears that prevents me from hearing "nothing", so the quiet can be absurdly loud - if that makes sense. At night I have to sleep with the fan on (even in winter) because the quiet can be deafening. If that doesn't work I listen to the radio.

Then as a mother there is a whole nother side to quiet - when it's quiet I wonder what Amber is up to - I have on many occassions found out the hard way what "quiet" means. Take for instance this first photo. I snuck up on Amber when she was only very little and found her getting stuck into a box of tissues, around the other side of my bed, out of view, so I couldn't see her down the hall. Then she spotted me!
Oh so cheeky and having the time of her life - in her pile of snow tissues! Or there was the time on New Years Day:

That mess behind my smiling mess maker is m&m's! No thankfully she didn't eat any, just used them to colour herself, her nappy and the carpet - one of our friends left the packet folded right down by the sofa where we didn't see - Amber did though!

Or the day Amber first learned to draw people: This wonderful picture is of Buzz Lightyear - Amber told me so, while she was holding a marker against one of the doors in our house! This was the one and only time she ever drew on a wall, she didn't even get into trouble, I was so happy she drew a person!

By the way it may look like Amber does all sorts of naughty things, she doesn't, she just knows how to exploit "quiet" time really well.

So there you have it "quiet" isn't always quiet - it's sometimes very loud and productive!

Great post! I often wonder what God's true definition of God is - He knows how He created us. Maybe quiet means more about our attitude. Like how you showed by your example and how you reacted to your little one's adventures. To not get upset but to embrace the child like wonder and achievements of those adventures. Now that sounds like a quiet spirit! Blessings, Hope
